With this piece, I aimed to capture the artistic process itself. How do we realise an emotion, a creative impulse? How do we give it life? The upward movement of the bubbles is a gentle but inexorable motion. Just so are driven on, entranced by an artistic ideal we see clearly in our mind’s eye but cannot yet possess. Like a creative idea or a feeling, the shimmering, luminescent bubbles are beautiful but ephemeral. Their rainbow forms float within reach, yet so often prove elusive. As we reach out, certain that we have a way forward, the bubble bursts leaving us empty handed.

Each perfect sphere is an artistic world in itself,  it is both part of and distinct from the stream. As the color of the bubbles intensifies, creativity rises within the subconscious. When it bursts, the inspiration reaches its apex. It reveals itself and in the same instant takes on a new form. A phoenix-like figure rises from the remains. The joy of creativity is perfect yet it is often borne of pain and struggle.

The delicate pastels, like the bubble form, convey an ever-changing and impermanent emotional landscape. This is an attempt to capture both the richness of our inner worlds and the terrible, elusive beauty of a creative concept as the artist struggles to express it.
